Nancy Wilson is a Grammy Award award-winning jazz musician. Nancy Wilson was born on the 20th of February, 1937 in Chillicothe OH to Olden Wilson who worked at the ironworks as well as Lillian Ryan, a former domestic worker. Nancy was the oldest of six kids. Nancy was a child who listened to her dad's records and his passion for music. She already knew she would become a performer at the age of 4 years old. She developed her skills by performing in the choir at church. After high school, she began to appear regularly on Skyline Melodies. She was fifteen when she won the television talent show. The same year, Nancy started to work in nightclubs. Nancy was 17 when she graduated highschool. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - now Central State University - for one term, Nancy quit to become a professional performer. She made her first recording in Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band, who she performed with from 1956 to 1958. While in the group Nancy recorded her first album with Dot Records. Cannonball addederley suggested she move into New York for her career, and in 1959 she relocated in The Big Town. The singer was brought in to perform in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had seen her. It was a contract by Capitol Records in 1960. In 1960, she released her first single. Guess Who You Saw Today. Her albums were a hit and Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. The first was focused on R&B however, under Adderley's influence, she started to take on jazz. Nancy Wilson's collaboration in 1962 with Cannonball Adderley propelled her to the top of the charts, and in 1963, she had her first hit Tell Me the Truth. Following that year, she was invited to perform at New York's Coconut Grove, the most prestigious night club in America.
